Talanoa Ako - Pacific Talk About Education and Learning (TA PTEL)

Talanoa Ako Pacific Talk About Education and Learning (TA PTEL) is a suite of programmes led by Strategy and Integration, Pacific Team in Ākonga and Community Delivery, Te Pae Aronui.

The flagship programme Talanoa Ako undertook a longitudinal study using Pacific methodologies to engage Pacific voice from parents, learners, families, and educators in Pacific education.

The study's insights have prompted the development of 12 programmes directly addressing the needs of Pacific communities, as well as the creation of TA PTEL (Talanoa Ako Pacific Talk About Education) resources.

The Team utilises Matamoana: As and By Pacific Theory and Approach to enhance Pacific learners' achievement and attendance.

Saili Malo is a Samoan concept focused on attaining a "prosperous life". Often the journey to get there is supported by a plan that informs a pathway.

The Saili Malo career resource Level Up! Prepare for your Future is a set of activity workbooks developed exclusively for Talanoa Ako partners. It provides resources focused on career activities that learners of different ages and their parents can do, reflect on, and discuss.

This resource is now available (in electronic form) to schools and educators who will be able to utilise them in many different ways to embed career activities into their teaching.

Senior High School (Y11-13)
Parents.

Rising Stars study and career resources

The Ministry of Education in collaboration with the Pacific Team at the NZ Qualifications Authority (NZQA) developed a set of supporting resources that would work side by side with our Saili Malo career resources.

Rising Stars is a resource to help Pacific young people and their families navigate education to employment pathways. It highlights different careers and encourages learners to find out what study and qualifications are needed for their future pathway. You’ll learn from Pacific navigators some tips regarding study and career pathways that you can also share with your family.

The package includes a booklet with helpful information about pathways as well as an inspiring video library.

We acknowledge the amazing people that were involved in this project and helped bring it to fruition.
