When is a tattoo more than a tattoo, when it's a tatau. The traditional Samoan tatau has a special cultural significance. From Apia to Aotearoa, from back in the day to today, the craft of tatau has been passed down by master tufuga or tattooists over many generations and across oceans, like all forms of creativity. It has evolved over time with new art and patterns being introduced to express identity and different life journeys. It's a proud artform that runs more than skin deep. Your Pacific ancestors were cultural artistic innovators from way back. Study art at school and carry their legacy into the future.
